A rundown house on Chicago’s near southwest side got a makeover this week. And Geneva Cleaners had an opportunity to help.

The business was asked by the producers of the popular television show, “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition”, to provide cleaning services for the project, whose filming will air in early January.

ABC_extreme_homeEric Severson, who co-owns Geneva Cleaners, said he went to the site Nov. 1 to "scope  the need for (cleaning of) textiles — including clothing, draperies, bedding and stuffed animals.”

Severson picked up about 600 items from that house and the grandmother’s residence nearby, where the homeowner and his family of eight have been staying in an attic.

“The father had bought the home, an historical brownstone, wanting to restore it back to its glory. But the house  was so far gone, it would have been impossible.  The walls were caving in,” Severson said.

“Extreme Makeover” producers stepped in, shipping the family Oct. 31 to Walt Disney World, and started work.
